THE DATA STEM FROM A LARGER QUALITATIVE RESEARCH PROJECT ON DIGITAL CONSULTATION IN DENMARK, FOCUSING ON THE 65+ AGE GROUP. OUR ANALYSIS DEPARTS FROM A SOCIOTECHNICAL PERSPECTIVE BY CONSIDERING THE INTRODUCTION OF THE TECHNOLOGY IN QUESTION – THE ECON BETWEEN THE PATIENT AND GP – AS CREATING NEW CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPATION IN AND THE EXCHANGE OF COMMUNICATION WITHIN THIS RELATIONSHIP. OUR ANALYSIS LEADS TO A SIX-CATEGORY TYPOLOGY OF BODIES IN AFFECTIVE DISCOURSE IN ECONS: SENSATIONS, EMOTIONS, COUNTINGS, MEDICATION, VISUALS AND MOVEMENTS. THE ANALYSIS BRINGS TOGETHER A THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE, THE MUTUAL SHAPINGS OF THE SOCIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL, WITH AN AFFECTIVE PRACTICE-BASED APPROACH. WE AIM TO SENSITIZE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT LOGICS OF CARE (MOL, 2008), CARE INFRASTRUCTURES (DANHOLT &amp; LANGSTRUP, 2012) AND THE PUSH FOR SELF-CARE TO THE ROLE OF INFORMATION, MEDIATED COMMUNICATION AND PARTICIPATION IN ACHIEVING GOOD CARE. WE BASE OUR ARGUMENT ON FINDINGS FROM FIELDWORK AMONG PATIENTS AND CLINICIANS AT TWO HOSPITAL UNITS FOR GASTROENTEROLOGY AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES IN COPENHAGEN AROUND THE IMPLEMENTATION AND USE OF MYCHART FOR INFORMATION, COMMUNICATION AND PARTICIPATION IN SELF-CARE. OUR FIELDWORK INDICATES THAT PATIENTS HAVE CLEAR – BUT VERY DIFFERENT – PREFERENCES FOR ACCESSING AND ENGAGING WITH INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION THROUGH MYCHART. WE LINK THESE MODES TO EXPERIENCES OF AUTHORITY, ROLE-EXPECTATIONS AND THE PROSPECT FOR JOINT DECISION-MAKING IN HEALTHCARE. WE SUGGEST THAT THE INTRODUCTION OF MORE COMMUNICATIVE FLEXIBILITY FOR SOME PATIENTS SPEAKS TO AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN CONTEMPORARY CARE INFRASTRUCTURES, REGARDING MEDIA CHOICE. THIS CHOICE, WHILE SEEMINGLY TRIVIAL, GRANTS THE PATIENT COMMUNICATION AGENCY AT A POINT WHERE THE PATIENT CAN ACTUALLY MASTER THE ROLE OF ACTIVE PARTNER IN CARE. THE PURPOSE OF THIS ARTICLE IS TO EXPLORE WHETHER E-CONSULTATIONS IN DENMARK REFLECT RECOMMENDATIONS THAT THEY SHOULD BE SIMPLE, SHORT, CONCRETE AND WELL DEFINED, AND IF NOT, WHAT FORMS OF COMPLEXITY ARE EVIDENT. WE INDUCTIVELY ANALYSED 1,671 E-CONSULTATIONS FROM 38 PATIENTS AGED 21–91 YEARS COMMUNICATING WITH 28 DOCTORS, 6 NURSES, 1 MEDICAL STUDENT AND 8 SECRETARIES. RESULTS SHOWED BOTH QUANTITATIVE COMPLEXITY IN TERMS OF NUMBER OF INTERACTION TURNS, COMMUNICATIVE PARTICIPANTS, AND QUESTIONS ASKED, AND QUALITATIVE COMPLEXITY RELATING TO PATIENTS’ PSYCHOSOCIAL CONTEXTS AND GPS’ BIOMEDICAL DISEASE PERSPECTIVE. IN JUNE 2015 THE NEW YORK TIMES BEGAN TO COMPILE A LIST OF TRUMP’S INSULTS ON TWITTER. BY JANUARY 2020 THE LIST COMPILES THE “598 PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS DONALD TRUMP HAS INSULTED ON TWITTER”. IN THIS ARTICLE, WE MAKE USE OF THIS LIST AS AN ARCHIVE OF CONDENSED AFFECTIVE EXPRESSIONS THAT ALLOW US TO ANALYSE THE WAYS IN WHICH TRUMP USES TWITTER TO MOBILISE POLITICALLY IN MANNERS WHICH WE WILL TERM ‘STRATEGIC CYBERBULLYING’. CYBERBULLYING IS OFTEN DISCUSSED AS A PHENOMENON THAT ARISES AMONG CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE, YET WE SUGGEST THAT BORROWING AN ANALYTIC LENS FROM CYBERBULLYING RESEARCH ALLOWS US TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE DYNAMICS OF TRUMP’S USE OF TWITTER FOR POLITICAL MOBILISATION. THROUGH A CATEGORICAL MAPPING OF THE NEW YORK TIMES ARCHIVE, WE SHOW HOW POLITICAL OPPONENTS ARE DISCREDITED STRATEGICALLY AND A NEW KIND OF POLITICAL TERRITORY IS ESTABLISHED THROUGH AN AFFECTIVE CIRCULATION OF INTERFACIAL REFRAINS THROUGH TWITTER. THESE REFRAINS TRAVEL BETWEEN ON- AND OFFLINE CONTEXTS TO EXTEND THE REACH OF THE CAMPAIGN THROUGH ESTABLISHING A NEW FORM OF WE-NESS THAT INCLUDES AND EXCLUDES COMMUNITIES. CONSEQUENTLY, MASCULINITY IN THE CONTEXT OF FAR-RIGHT ORGANISATIONS AND THE MANOSPHERE HAS RECEIVED SCHOLARLY ATTENTION. HOWEVER, MOST STUDIES FOCUS ON MALE ORGANISATIONS AND MALE LEADERS, GIVING THE IMPRESSION THAT “MASCULINIST DISCOURSES” ARE REPRODUCED ONLY BY MEN (KIMMEL, 2013, 2018; MILLER-IDRISS, 2018). YET, IT BECOMES INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO CONTINUE TO IGNORE THE PATRIARCHAL DISCOURSES OF WOMEN ENGAGED IN ACTIVISM IN FAR-RIGHT ORGANISATIONS. THEREFORE, THIS EXPLORATORY STUDY FOCUSES ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF GENDER IN THE ONLINE COMMUNICATION OF THE CZECH FEMALE ORGANISATION ANGRY MOTHERS. THE STUDY PROVIDES A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW WOMEN CAN CO-CONSTRUCT THE MANOSPHERE, WHICH IS DEEMED TO BE A FUNDAMENTALLY MISOGYNIST ONLINE SPACE. TO ANSWER MY RESEARCH QUESTIONS: HOW DOES THE ORGANISATION USE VISUAL LANGUAGE TO CONSTRUCT GENDER IN THEIR ONLINE COMMUNICATION? AND WHAT TYPES OF MASCULINITY/FEMININITY ARE PORTRAYED AS SUPERIOR AND WHAT TYPES OF MASCULINITY/FEMININITY ARE PORTRAYED AS SUBORDINATE?, I ANALYSED MATERIAL PUBLISHED ON THE ORGANISATION’S FACEBOOK PAGE USING THE METHOD OF VISUAL ANALYSIS (ROSE, 2016), INFORMED BY CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS (CDA) (WODAK &amp; MEYER, 2016). BASED ON THE FINDINGS, I ARGUE THAT THE ACTIVISTS’ VIEWS PRESENTED IN THEIR POLITICAL COMMUNICATION AIM TO PRESERVE A MASCULINIST, PATRIARCHAL STRUCTURAL ORDER IN SOCIETY, DESPITE THEIR SELF-IDENTIFICATION AS PROTECTORS OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS. HOWEVER, THROUGH THEIR DISCURSIVE PRACTICES, THEY SIMULTANEOUSLY PORTRAY WOMEN AS POWERFUL ACTORS IN THEIR TRADITIONAL GENDER ROLES.</p>
ARTICLE2021-04-03T00:00:00.000+00:00“Making Sense”https://sciendo.com/article/10.7146/tjcp.v7i1.119861
<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> <p>THIS ARTICLE ENGAGES WITH THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ALTERNATIVE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA CENTRE FC/MC WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED AND OPERATED DURING THE 2017 G20-SUMMIT IN HAMBURG.
