<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> This paper is intended as part of a larger research that aims to the realization of a monographic study dedicated to the Romanian translations of Dante's Inferno, from 19th to 21th century. It is a historical and critical approach, intended as an interdisciplinary study, to be placed at the crossing of disciplines like translation history, translation criticism, reception theory, history of literature, history of literary language, cultural history. The bibliographical selection we propose is complete with some methodological and deontological considerations of utility in the study of the history of translation.</abstract>

This paper focuses upon the translatorꞌs role as a language mediator in professional communication. During the translation process, terminological knowledge is essential since the information conveyed by a scientific and technical writing is encoded in terms which give access to more elaborate knowledge structures. Additionally, the translator faces situations in which a term is borrowed either from the general language or from a field of knowledge and utilized in another field. Therefore, the main challenges encountered by a translator are: identifying the terms, understanding the termsꞌ meaning, finding the suitable termsꞌ correspondents in the target language.

The aim of this article is to analyze how French cultural allusions and wordplays in advertising slogans can be transposed into Romanian. Drawing on a series of concepts and theoretical observations concerning the field of advertising translation, we will outline the difficulties, the constraints, and the main strategies involved in this particular kind of translation. Secondly, we would like to analyze some concrete examples of advertising campaigns initiated in France and exported to Romania. Thirdly, we will examine the translation/localization of the advertising slogans into Romanian and we will discuss the solutions found by the translators to overcome the linguistic and the cultural difficulties raised by the translation process.

Despite the fact that, as renowned translators such as Anthony Pym (2009) or, in the Slovak cultural context, Katarína Bednárová (2015) have stated, the history of translation cannot be written without considering who those who made the interpretation and understanding of the translated works possible were, the reality is that, in general terms, translators continue to be the great unknowns. For this reason, in this article, we have set out to investigate the figures of those men and women whose work made it possible for Slovak literature to reach a particular Spanish-speaking reading public, that of Cuba, in a specific period of history, that between 1960 and 1989.

The first Hungarian translations of Dante’s masterpiece have been published starting from the mid-19th Century. Among these translations, the most important and successful has been the one by Mihály Babits (published between 1912 and 1922). During the 20th century, several other translations were published, but in anthologies or in an incomplete form. Within this frame and tradition, university professor and translator Ádám Nádasdy (born 1947) published, in 2016, his own Dante translation, in unrhymed iambic pentameter. This paper aims to present the Hungarian translations of <italic>Divina Commedia</italic>, focusing on the characteristics of the latest one, by Ádám Nádasdy.

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> The new discipline of translation studies clearly finds itself downstream among humanities and traditional disciplines. Essentially interdisciplinary, this “science” lends those major disciplines a fair amount of its methods and concepts. Within this interdisciplinary concert, history plays a crucial role: history of translation (or history of translations) and history as such. Therefore, a methodological research triangle must integrate the following three components: a) translation studies theory; b) different translation practices that form its object of study and which it is called upon to clarify; c) the poles of the couple theory / practice will be re-situated in the logic of their respective common history. </abstract>

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> In the novel Vengeance du traducteur, Brice Matthieussent focuses on the translator-author relationship and tackles the question from the point of view of the translator’s note. The author is eventually murdered by the translator out of revenge, not only in symbolical terms but also in literal terms. A given aesthetics of translation is thereby conveyed, going through stages of appropriation, digestion, transportation and transgression of text and translation rules, which nonetheless does not necessarily reflect the author’s genuine stand, a famous translator himself. </abstract>

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>This paper explores the constraints language deconstruction and ungrammaticality in Margerite Duras’s novels impose on the translation process. Given its “value” in Duras’s work, ungrammaticality seems to dictate the translator’s choice of literal translation to English or Spanish, except when the differences between language systems do not allow for literal translation and require creative ways to capture the source text and its effects. However, a review of several published English and Spanish translations of Duras’s novels has revealed that a more powerful constraint is imposed on translation and conflicts with the above-mentioned mechanism. This fundamental constraint is the acceptability of the proposed translation by the target culture.</abstract>
