Submission

The Review of Economic Perspectives (REP) welcomes all manuscripts covering issues in economic policy, economics and econometrics that have practical relevance for the Central and Eastern European countries. REP is an open access journal and does not charge for article submission or article processing (APCs). Articles for submission should be formatted in word processing files (preferably MS Word or LaTeX). Submissions, together with any pre-submission queries, should be sent to the editors at rep@econ.muni.cz. If your submission is successful you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

Manuscript Requirements

Please take five minutes to read the manuscript requirements below to ensure that the submission and review process are as smooth and speedy as possible for you. Contributors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscript for conformity with these points before sending in their submission.

1. Originality

Submitted manuscripts must not have been published previously (other than in the form of an abstract, as part of a published lecture or academic thesis, or as an electronic preprint), and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Its publication must be approved by all authors before you send it to REP for submission, and, if it is accepted by REP, it must not subsequently be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without written consent (for copyright conditions see below). To verify originality, we may check your manuscript using the originality detection service CrossCheck.

2. All essential features of a complete scientific paper

The text should contain an introduction which defines the problem to be solved, an overview of relevant literature and applied methods, an analysis of the problem, a discussion of results and a conclusion with a clear formulation of the results. All sources must be cited in the main text and properly referenced in the list of references. Direct quotations must be clearly marked in the text. Each manuscript must contain an abstract (at most 300 words) including a list of key words and the appropriate JEL classification.

3. Structure and format

Your manuscript should be written in clear and concise English. The recommended length is no more 10,000 words. This word limit includes the title, abstract, keywords, text, references, notes, tables and figures. Tables and figures are counted by literal word count.

We encourage you to conform to the REP style guide when submitting your manuscript, although this is not a strict condition at the submission stage. Nevertheless the structure of the text, tables and graphs should be clearly laid out and the manuscript must contain all essential features of a complete scientific paper (see point 2, above). There are no strict requirements on reference formatting at submission. References may be in any style or format as long as the style is consistent. Where applicable, author(s) name(s), journal title/book title, chapter title/article title, year of publication, volume number/book chapter and the pagination must be present. Use of DOI is highly encouraged. If your article is accepted, you will be required to comply with REP format and style at the proof stage.

Quantitative articles should contain sufficient information for the editor and referees to evaluate them. It is usually desirable for the results reported in the main article to be closely focused on advancing the argument of the paper, with additional results reported in a technical appendix published on the journal’s website. Please note that quantitative appendices are not included in the 10,000 word limit.

4. Anonymity

In the interests of anonymous reviewing, the author's name(s), contact information, biographical information, acknowledgments or any other information that may disclose their identity should not be included anywhere in the main manuscript document. Contact details for the corresponding author, with his/her full name, institution and contact address, including email should be sent either in a separate document or as a de-anonymized copy of the main manuscript. If your manuscript is accepted for publication, you will be asked to provide a de-anonymized copy of the article by email. This version should include all the information that was originally removed from the anonymized version of the article.

5. Acknowledgement and conflict of interest

All authors are requested to disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest including any financial, personal or other relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence, or be perceived to influence, their work. If the funding source(s) had no such involvement then this should be stated.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts are briefly assessed by the journal editors to ensure that they meet the journal's general requirements. Authors are usually informed within one week whether their manuscript has been accepted to undergo the double-blind peer-review process. If so, the article is then sent for anonymous review to two referees, who are members of the Editorial Advisory Board and Editors, or other experts appointed by them. The referees usually have four weeks to assess the manuscript. We try to let authors know whether their paper is accepted for publication within two months of their manuscript submission.

The reviewers examine whether the submitted manuscript contains all essential features of a complete scientific paper, especially in terms of its originality, scientific contribution, aim, result, adequacy of the method, logical consistency, currency of the data, sources and references. On the basis of the reviews, the editors decide whether to accept an article as it is, accept it with minor revisions, accept it conditionally pending major revisions, or reject it. The appointed editor communicates the final decision, and informs the authors about the procedure to be followed.

Manuscripts that are accepted with minor revisions must be corrected by the author(s). The corrections should take the editor's remarks or suggestions into account. In this situation the author(s) must NOT make more extensive changes that might influence the extent or contents of the article. The electronic copy of the corrected manuscript must then be sent to the journal in accordance with the editor's instructions. Authors are required to enclose a separate sheet with their re-submission, explaining how they have responded to the referees' remarks and suggestions and implemented the required changes in the manuscript.

Conditionally accepted manuscripts that require major revision should be corrected by the author(s) taking into account the editor's remarks or suggestions. When such a manuscript is re-submitted, its authors are required to enclose a separate sheet with the revised manuscripts, in which they explain their responses to the referees' remarks and suggestions, and the changes they have made to the manuscript. These responses are usually sent to the former reviewers, who then assess the revised version. Careful preparation of these documents makes the review process faster and facilitates the improvement of the manuscript.

In order to improve the quality of the articles, we provide language editing support for accepted articles prior to publication. Accepted manuscripts are edited by a native speaker, whose suggested revisions are sent to the author(s) and should be incorporated into a final version, usually within two weeks. Authors are also asked to proofread the final version of their article before the journal is issued.

Before publication, the corresponding author will receive a final file containing the page proofs for checking. It is the corresponding author’s responsibility to circulate these proofs to co-authors if required.

Copyright statement

All articles published by REP are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license as currently displayed on creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/, which allows users to read, copy, distribute and make derivative works for non-commercial purposes from the material, as long as the author(s) of the original work is cited.

REP is a non-profit making open access journal and does not charge for access nor seek to re-publish contributions in any other format (translations, anthologies, and the like) without the explicit consent of the authors. The copyright for all articles published in REP remains with their author(s). Any enquiries concerning the further non-commercial use of material published in REP beyond normal academic usage should therefore be addressed directly to the authors themselves.

However, REP reserves the right to potential commercial use of the material it publishes, and therefore requires authors to grant the journal owner a license for commercial use. Commercial use is rare in Open Access, because the journal article is available publicly online, but it may occur. In order to avoid confusion, REP requests that the license for commercial use is exclusive and the commercial rights will be protected by REP.

These conditions are contained in the license to publish, which the authors of accepted manuscripts are required to sign before article publication.

Open Access Statement

The journal is an Open Access journal that allows a free unlimited access to all its contents without any restrictions upon publication to all users.
