Bridges are always subjected to different types of loads, which can be divided into three big categories: vertical loads, transversal loads, and longitudinal loads. The primary function of a bridge is to have good performance under heavy loads represented by cars, trucks, trains and sometimes tanks. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview regarding types of loads that can appear on bridges with the main focus on loads generated by vehicles. This description will contribute to our future studies. We aim to develop future research and perform different types of stress calculations on the Octav Băncilă passage from Iași (Romania). Finite element analysis will be conducted on vehicle loads generated by trucks, which act on the bridge structure, simulating different loading scenarios. Based on the values of the stress calculations, we will highlight dangerous sections and take measures to enhance the reliability degree of the analyzed bridge.

Loads on Bridges - Overview

Vehicle hood modal analysis is an essential step in the design and development process of a hood system. It involves studying the dynamic response of the vehicle’s hood structure under different operational conditions and helps in designing a proper geometry that can withstand durability and fatigue. There are many parameters in the hood system that can influence its modal response as: hood stiffness, body stiffness, equipment stiffness and position and others. Our paper summarizes some research on this topic and then provides a case study on a numerical modal analysis of a steel hood on body with and without maintain bumpers. The resonant frequencies, mode shapes, global and local displacement responses are presented for each of the selected configurations. The influence of the maintain bumpers on the dynamic response of the hood is highlighted and conclusions are made for each of the computed configuration. Finally, the paper presents a general view of the future studies on hood modal response.

The role of maintenance in industry is important to ensure optimal performance, reliability and longevity of equipment, machinery and infrastructure. This maintenance ensure the continuity of the production with minimal losses. The present paper present the types of maintenance and based on this it focused on developing a generalized software which can be applied mainly in mechanical production industry. The main positive aspects of the software are: it represent an open source through the option of adding equipment, it can deliver sheets with costs of preventive maintenance and lists of personnel. Maintenance activities play a significant role in supporting the production process, minimizing downtime, reducing costs and increasing overall operational efficiency.

Metal and plastic parts are made in moulds, in production processes such as plastic injection, metal alloy die casting and metal deformation. During operations, moulds are exposed to severe conditions: wear, impact, corrosion, thermal cycling and high mechanical stresses. Moulds reconstruction has advanced, precisely because to new technologies, such as laser welding. Laser technologies offers several benefits, including increase of work speeds, reduced thermally influenced zones and material losses and decreased additional working times for mechanical machining processes.

The noise pollution has a negative effect on the human body and in some situations, exposure to high levels of pollution can lead to serious health problems. Referring to current studies, we can see a high interest in finding solutions to reduce the effects of noise pollution, such as sound absorbing panels. The purpose of this paper is to present the current stage of development of sound absorbing panels and the absorption coefficient of the materials used. The article will provide information on different types of panels and materials used in their construction, as well as their mechanical properties. New discoveries in the field related to recyclable materials used in the construction of sound absorbing panels represent an additional point of interest, as the construction of such prototypes protects the environment. The use of waste in the construction process of sound absorbing panels can be considered sustainable a future method.

This paper presents a concise review of cooling techniques for the solar PV systems.
The photovoltaic effect was firstly experimentally demonstrated by the French physicist Edmond Becquel in 1839. The first useful solar cell (6% energy efficiency) was performed by the Bell Laboratories (1950). They realized that the semiconducting materials such silicon were more efficient than selenium.
The following conditions have a significant impact on solar panel’s efficiency, in real-world use: irradiance (W/m2), shading, orientation and temperature. The ambient temperature, wind speed, time of day and the amount of solar irradiance (W/m2) make real variation in cells temperature that often rises above 25ºC. The optimum internal cell temperature is typically 25-30ºC above the ambient air temperature and solar cell performance decreases with increasing temperature with 8-15% in total power output. That’s why engineers design cooling systems to improve the efficiency of solar panels that operate in non-optimal conditions.

A large number of technical creation methods are known in the process of ranking technical solutions in a technical field of interest. The independent use of these methods limits their capabilities to cover broad areas such as bionics or biomimetics. In the present paper, the combination of two such classical methods was proposed. The first is the morphological matrix method by which new solutions for solving technical problems can be reached, and the other is the diagram of ideas that allows the hierarchization and good classification of the generated solutions. Thus, the hybridization of the two methods of technical creation was done for the first time in this work and can be a useful tool for inspiration from nature in the orderly process of solving technical problems.

Hybridization of Technical Creation Methods in Bionics and Biomimetics

This paper presents the torque focused design optimization and analysis of coaxial magnetic gears parameters when implementing some constructive and assembly solutions.
A theoretical investigation of several proposed solutions for mounting the permanent magnets on the surfaces of inner and outer rotors is held. The mounting of magnetic pieces on outer and inner rotors is considered as the benchmark models of magnetic gears do not display the actual torque capability provided by their constructed versions.
Design, geometry, and assembly of magnetic flux modulator are studied to determine some feasible solutions.
The impact of above-mentioned parameters on the torque capability are then studied and calculated with the help of finite element method (FEA) and the results are summarized and presented.

Composites occupy an important place in high-end industries due to their superior characteristics compared to traditional materials or individual constituent materials.
The work focuses on the FEA analysis of composite materials with CFRP carbon fibers with polymer matrix subjected to tensile and shear loads, an important subject of study in the field of engineering. The analysis using the finite element method is a real help by simulating the materials in different conditions. Due to their advanced properties, composite materials can be tested and optimized before being used in production. This can reduce the need to make prototypes and testing multiple times. The aim is to increase productivity and eliminate excess waste, an important process that is the basis of all industries today.
Modified butterfly-type specimens were used in these research studies to be tested on the Arcan device. The simulation conditions were similar to a tensile and shear test conducted in the laboratory, considering a material without cracks or other impurities in its structure and utilizing mechanical properties provided by software Ansys for unidirectional carbon fiber and epoxy-reinforced matrix.
