A Perspective on Military Operations in the Urban Environment

The current operational environment is increasingly complex, dynamic and unpredictable. Military actions vary in duration and intensity, but regardless of their type, they represent a major challenge to the participating forces due to the complexity of the environment and the operational context and the multitude of actors present in the area of operations. The last period also shows that military actions, contrary to the recommendations of military strategists, focus on inhabited areas and especially on urban areas that concentrate economic, political, military power and offer multiple opportunities, especially to forces in numerical and technological inferiority. The conduct of military operations in urban areas is a major challenge for all armies, regardless of their level and combat experience, and overburdens personnel beyond borders.
