Leadership in the military entails making crucial decisions, frequently under intense pressure and with serious repercussions. Effective military leaders reason strategically to arrive at well-informed, actionable conclusions while they build and motivate teams. Within the complexity of such an approach that calls for a wide range of military, psychological, discursive and functional perspectives, this paper sets out to review the notion of leadership and to emphasize several military leadership literature approaches delineating the roles of a military leader that are context-dependable, multi-levelled and transformational in the army environment.
